Health Tip of the Week: Sorry ladies, but your just going to have to do weight bearing exercises to keep those pounds off. Unlike men, women do not naturally carry a lot of muscle mass; which is the largest 'organ' for burning calories. Muscles consume a lot of calories because they are a metabolic tissue. They are continuously used every day - at least for active people - and therefore require a lot of replenishing and nourishment. The more you use your muscles the more they burn calories; and the bigger they are the more calories they burn every minute of every day! |
