Posture
Mandatory for Good Health
Pretend there is a string attached to the crown of your head. If you pull the string straight up what will it do to your body? Try it! It pulls you upright. The only other thing left for perfect poster is to relax the shoulders by rolling them back and tuck in the stomach muscles. Voila!
So why is posture so important?
Let’s start with the esthetics of good posture; what looks more attractive, a person slouched over with head down and shoulders curled forward or someone standing tall and shoulders back? Not only do you look more aware and alert with good posture, but you look confident and strong. Which of these people would you invest your money with or hire to do a job for you? Appearance is everything when people need to make a judgment call on you. The second reason for good posture is good health. Your neck and spinal cord is made up of little discs with a central tunnel that encases the Central Nervous System and protects it. Slouching causes these discs to condense and potentially disrupt the nervous system’s communication line. These nerves connect your brain to all organs, muscles and tissue, etc. and any disruption will affect vital organ function. Slouching puts unnatural strain on the muscles in the shoulders, neck, and upper and lower back. Muscle strain can cause muscles spasms and/or tenderness leading to stress and fatigue. Prolonged stress and fatigue can cause premature aging among many other ailments and illnesses.
Mentally, standing tall and confident makes you feel confident. People respect you more when you show confidence in yourself and they treat you differently. People notice you more when you show confidence. Confidence gives you energy and the energy that you project affects people around you and they feel obligated to measure up to you. That’s not a bad thing when your confidence can help others feel better.
So practice your posture by doing a 3 point check system through out the day. Pull the string up; roll the shoulders back; stomach tucked in. All that’s left is putting a smile on you face!
